Review – Pageant by Lilith Vincent

Hi there! As this is my second book review, then I’m still trying to find the right style for me to write a book review. I myself don’t enjoy reading too long reviews, so I guess I’ll try to make my on a shorter side. Also I’m not sure about summarizing the story, as the book’s synopsis usually does a good job of it. We’ll just have to see how this review turns out at the end. 😊

I just took part in a release blitz for Pageant by Lilith Vincent. The synopsis and teasers sounded intriguing, so I decided to go ahead and just read this dark mafia captive reverse harem romance immediately.

⭐⭐⭐⭐🌠 (4.5 stars)

Lilith Vincent
Pageant #1

Genres & Tropes: A Dark Mafia Reverse Harem Romance, An Adult Contemporary Fiction, A Captive Hate-to-Love Romance
POV: Multiple – mainly Lilia, Elyah, Kirill & Konstantin
PUB: May 11, 2022

One woman. Three mafia men. A twisted marriage game…

Through a cruel twist of fate, the dangerous life I escaped has seized hold of me again. Three men have snatched my freedom and they’re playing a twisted game of power, hearts, and blood.

My captors glitter like diamonds in the dark, each one more handsome and ruthless than the last. Konstantin, the scarred and heartless ringleader, and mastermind of my fate. Elyah, the demon from my past who once craved me and now covets my demise. Kirill, a bloodthirsty maniac with depraved needs who thrives on misery and mayhem.

Sixteen women are forced to compete in their twisted pageant, and one by one we’re eliminated until there’s only one jewel left. My captors’ desire burns as hard as their cruelty, but the true torment only begins when the pageant ends.

Heavy is the crown that glitters on the winner’s head.

Author’s note: Pageant (Pageant, 1) is the first book in a mafia reverse harem duet and ends on a cliffhanger. The heroes only have hearts, eyes and dicks for the heroine. It contains captive themes, violence, and a Why Choose romance with ruthlessly possessive men. The story is dark and potentially triggering, so please read responsibly.

“My name is Konstantin, and we’re going to play a game. Like all games, there are rules, and there’s a winner. Only one winner.” His gaze sweeps along the row of women. “You want to be that winner.” [..] So that’s what he has planned. A sick, twisted version of a beauty pageant, only it’s our lives on the line, and I doubt these men care about our views on world peace. [..] “The only way out of this to safety and happiness is to earn this crown.” Konstantin smiles his cold smile, and gazes from one of us to the next. “May the best woman win.” It’s a trick! I want to shout. Don’t believe a word he says. The only winner will be him.

I don’t think, you need to know more about this book than this teaser excerpt and what the synopsis says. Go in blind and just enjoy this twisted, dark, heart-wrecking, exhilarating and violent beauty contest.

🦋What I liked:

  • The biggest positive was the female MC Lilia. She pleasantly surprised me with her strengths, wit and determination.
  • The plot and story with it’s twists, pain and darkness.
  • I liked Konstantin, Kirill and Elyah. Each of them were a different and intriguing character.
  • This book was dark. The romance was twisted. The story was heart-breaking. There was action, violence and passion. There were surprises, betrayal, emotional moments and steamy scenes.
  • I forgot about the reality while reading and was completely captivated by this tale.
  • It was a well written reverse harem romance in the way that there was no jealousy nor a forced choice to share the love interest.

🦋What could have been better:

  • I liked the three anti-hero Russian alphas, Konstantin, Kirill and Elyah, however, I just don’t feel like I got to know them as well as I would have wanted. I hope in the next book we will learn more about all three of them (especially Konstantin), so I can fall in love with them.
  • There were a few times where I was missing an emotional connection to the characters and story. But this book still made me feel deeply, so at the end of the day, I cared about what was going to happen next, and I want to see them all happy at the end, after a little bit of groveling.

🦋Final verdict:

4.5 stars and I loved it! I kept reading it throughout the night till the last page, that’s how immerged I was in this story. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book and find out how their story ends.

This is paradise on earth, but for the sixteen young women locked in cages in the cellar, it’s a living hell, and I am the gatekeeper.

This book was a hit with me!😉 How about you? Have you read Pageant by Lilith Vincent? Or is it on your TBR? Or you are not interested in this one?
