Wednesday Memes #1 | May 18, 2022

Hi there! I’m here with my first Wednesday Book Memes’ post. First up will be WWW Wednesday. This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm, now you can find it on Taking on a World of Words. For WWW Wednesday meme you just have to answer three W questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

The last question about what I’m going to read next will link this post to the other two memes Shelf Control — an original feature created and hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies. Shelf Control is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves. Simply, pick a book you own but haven’t read, and write a post about it. And Books from the Backlog – hosted by Carol’s Random Life. Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread. It’s time to read those unread books on my physical and/or electronic bookshelves!

🦋What are you currently reading?

🦋What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished reading The Spinster by Bree Wolf, so here is my mini REVIEW:

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The tropes of love triangle, second chance romance and friends-to-lovers is not something that I enjoy reading, however, I like Bree Wolf’s writing, so I decided to give this book a chance. Also the synopsis didn’t make me think that the story will relay heavily on these three tropes, but it did. The writing was very good, the cover is beautiful, it was a quick and clean read, and I liked grandmother Clarice. Those were the positive aspects of this story. But at the end of the day this book just wasn’t my cup of tea. I wasn’t a fan of the way that the author dealt with the love triangle. A lot of time was wasted, the story was tragic in a way that was just a bit too much for my liking, and the characters were lacking enough of depth and page time together. I wanted more from this story, especially, as it was missing the romance. In this case, I must admit that it was me and not the book, so I gave it 3 stars (which means – book is good, but I won’t be reading it again). If you don’t mind love triangles, tragedies, friends-to-lovers and second chance romance, you could enjoy this clean and innocent regency romance – The Spinster by Bree Wolf.

The Spinster by Bree Wolf

Originally: Book 4 in the Ladies of Miss Bell’s Finishing School Series (2019)

Now: Prequel of the Forbidden Love Series (2022)

Genre: Adult, Historical Romance, Regency Romance

My copy: Kindle ebook / PUB. 2022 / Length: 128 pages

A wild lady. A wicked curse. And a love torn apart by tragedy.

England 1814: MISS JOHANNA GREY’s wild youth ends abruptly when her best friend—and betrothed—falls to his death upon climbing the tree outside her window. Heartbroken and unable to forgive herself, she retreats to a finishing school for young ladies.

Until London calls four years later, and Johanna finds herself swept into a world of matchmakers and schemers, pressured to find a husband. Will it be kind-hearted Lord Kenwood, a man who reminds her of the friend she lost that fateful day long ago? Or perhaps COLIN GRENVILLE, a young man from her past, whom Johanna did not even dare think of these past four years?

For years, COLIN GRENVILLE, only son and heir to VISCOUNT ATTINGTON, stayed away from England, travelling the world, until a most unexpected letter finds him in Venice, Italy. Suddenly drawn back home, Colin finally admits to himself that the girl he once loved still holds his heart. But will he reach her in time before she chooses the wrong man? Or will fate never be on their side?

🦋What do you think you’ll read next?

My next read most probably is going to be Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey.

Shelf Control and Books from the Backlog

Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

Genre: Adult, Romantic Comedy, Contemporary Romance

Trope: Hate-to-Love, Office Romance

PUB: 2018

Length: 370 pages

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.
I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

🦋How and when I got it? Why did I add Hotshot Doc to my bookshelf?

I think, it was a Christmas present in 2019. I was glad to receive it, as it was on my Wishlist, because I needed to have more R.S. Grey’s books on my shelf.

🦋Why do I want to read Hotshot Doc?

I love R.S. Grey’s books and this is one of the few that I haven’t read yet. So I think, it’s time to do so. It’s a romantic comedy, there is a hate-to-love romance and it has a gorgeous cover as all Ms. Grey’s books. What else do you need? The weather is warm and sunny, so it’s a good time for reading some sweet, fun and steamy romcom. Also I just re-watched Supernatural episode featuring Doctor Sexy TV show, so now I want to read a sexy doctor romance. 😉

How about you? What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What are you planning to read next? Have you read Hotshot Doc? Would you recommend it?

Feel free to leave link for your WWW Wednesday or Shelf Control or Books from the Backlog post!
